A2 Unit 3: Resolution of Dilemmas
A2 Unit 3 asks students to apply a particular framework for resolving dilemmas to a given example.
Examples could be such issues as “How should we respond to climate change?”, “What should we do about drug-taking in sport?”, or “Which universities should I apply to?”
The framework that you’re asked to use in tackling such questions as these involves a number of stages:
- Identifying any problems of definition.
- Establishing a continuum of choice.
- Establishing criteria of judgement.
- Applying the criteria of judgement to the continuum of choice.
- Identifying and resolving the dilemmas that arise from this process, using ethical principles where appropriate.
