A2 Unit 3 asks students to apply a particular framework for resolving dilemmas to a given example.

Examples could be such issues as “How should we respond to climate change?”, “What should we do about drug-taking in sport?”, or “Which universities should I apply to?”

The framework that you’re asked to use in tackling such questions as these involves a number of stages:

1. Identifying any problems of definition.
2. Establishing a continuum of choice.
3. Establishing criteria of judgement.
4. Applying the criteria of judgement to the continuum of choice.
5. Identifying and resolving the dilemmas that arise from this process, using ethical principles where appropriate.
