The final section of the Unit 2 paper will contain two questions asking you to develop your own further arguments with specified structures. There are plenty of marks available for these questions, so you must leave enough time to do them well.

For each question, you will be given a particular conclusion to argue towards. One of the questions will probably be given the option of arguing either for or against the main conclusion of the passage in the resource booklet. When you do this, you must make new points; you won’t get any marks for repeating the ideas contained in the original passage.

To score high marks, your argument must have the structure that the question asks for, e.g. several reasons supporting an intermediate conclusion and a main conclusion, so it’s important that you understand precisely what the various elements of arguments are.
