Q8b Points of Corroboration
This question is very similar to the previous question about points of corroboration. In this context, “conflict” simply means disagreement; you are looking for points on which two (or more) witnesses disagree. Again, there are six marks in total for this question.
Question Format
This question will be worded: “State two / three precise points of conflict. Support these with references from the text.”
Strategy
As with the previous question, to score full marks you need to both state what each point of conflict is, and give two quotes to support your point.
Sample Answers
Good answer: John and Geoff disagree about whether Pete was drunk. John: “Pete was clearly intoxicated.” Geoff: “Pete was teetotal; he never touched a drop.”
Weak answer: One point of conflict is whether or not Pete had been drinking.
